Meet the Doctor
Dr Christos Venetis
Gynecologic Surgeon
Christos Venetis is an internationally renowned gynecologist with extensive clinical and research experience in infertility, assisted reproduction, and reproductive endocrinology.
After a successful decade-long professional and academic career in Sydney, Australia, he returned to Greece in 2023 and now provides fertility treatment services in Thessaloniki to patients from Greece and abroad.
Dr. Venetis has special expertise in managing complex infertility cases, including recurrent implantation failure and poor ovarian response.
He is known for his patient-centered approach and attention to detail, which, combined with his experience and deep knowledge of medical literature, enable him to successfully apply the most modern, effective, safe, and patient-friendly assisted reproduction methods.
EDUCATION, MEDICAL TRAINING & CAREER
tos Venetis graduated from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2003. In 2004, he was admitted through competitive examination to AUTH’s Master’s Program in “Medical Research Methodology” (MSc Res), from which he graduated in 2006 with “Excellent” honors, achieving the highest grade in his year (Valedictorian).
He obtained his medical specialty degree in Obstetrics-Gynecology in 2012 after completing his training at the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology AUTH, at Papageorgiou General Hospital of Thessaloniki. Subsequently, he completed subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine at the Unit of Human Reproduction of the same department, accredited by the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). In 2014, he received certification for successful completion of his subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine.
In early 2014, he was also awarded his PhD in Medicine from AUTH (“Excellent with Distinction”) after successfully completing his doctoral thesis on the prognostic role of progesterone at the end of the follicular phase for IVF cycle outcomes. Specifically, Dr. Venetis and his colleagues convincingly demonstrated that high progesterone concentration on the day of hCG administration for final oocyte maturation leads to a significant reduction in success rates after fresh embryo transfer. This research has received significant international recognition and has contributed to the adoption of new stimulation protocols and embryo transfer strategies by most fertility clinics worldwide.
In 2014, he moved to Sydney, Australia for advanced training in infertility and reproductive endocrinology, one of the pioneering and most advanced countries in assisted reproduction. From 2014 to late 2016, he trained and worked at Sydney’s largest hospitals (St George, Royal Hospital for Women), and in 2016 he was awarded (after examination) Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG).
From late 2016 until his departure to Greece in 2023, Dr. Venetis maintained a highly successful private practice in Gynecology & Reproductive Medicine in Sydney, seeing patients from all Australian states while regularly providing consultation and second opinions to colleagues on difficult clinical cases.

In 2019, Dr. Venetis and colleagues received additional funding from Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council to investigate cancer risk following IVF in women who have undergone IVF treatment and children born through IVF. To date, Dr. Venetis’s research activities have received funding from national and international organizations exceeding 1.5 million Australian dollars.
